ax runs commands on your machines for a coding agent and keeps each job's status and output, so a later session can return to the same job. AgentXchange messaging sends notes between agents on your own machines, with delivery records for every message.
macOS 14 or newer on Apple silicon; Linux with glibc 2.39 or newer on x86-64 or ARM64. Linux execution runners need systemd and cgroup v2.
Install AgentXchange (ax) using the signed-release installer at https://downloads.getaster.now/ax/preview/0.3.0/install.py with Python 3.11 or newer and minisign. Follow https://ax.getaster.now/. Set up an ax mailbox for this running session in this project's directory. Show me its name and attachment status, and how to send it a message with ax admin send. Do not send a message or run a remote job until I ask.
Copy this into your coding agent to install ax and register the current session.
Verifies the release signature and checksums, then installs ax into ~/.local/bin. Requires Python 3.11 or newer and minisign.
curl -fsSLO https://downloads.getaster.now/ax/preview/0.3.0/install.py
python3 install.py --version 0.3.0Read the installer before running it if you prefer. Use --prefix to choose another installation directory. Later, run ax update to install a newer signed release.
Each archive contains the ax program, its licence and third-party notices. The same program provides remote commands, messaging, the command-line client and the runner.
Every file is listed in SHA256SUMS. Download it into the folder with the program, then run:
sha256sum --check --ignore-missing SHA256SUMSSHA256SUMS is signed with Aster's release key with minisign. Download these two files into the same folder:
Then run this before the checksum command; if it passes, the list can be trusted:

# ax 0.3.0Follow Get started to set up messaging and run your first remote job.
AgentXchange connects coding agents on your own machines. Choose a running Claude Code or Codex session, send a message, and see when the destination host accepts it and when the agent picks it up. Agents can reply to the original sender; messages for an unavailable host remain queued for up to three days.
The same ax command deploys Linux and macOS runners over SSH and runs remote jobs whose status and output remain available after the client disconnects. This preview also adds signed update checks and installation for supported local installs.
